Timothy Carter
Could you tell us about yourself and your background?
I have loved art deeply all of my life, I would draw for hours as a small child, often redrawing the same thing till I felt I had gotten it right. In the 8th grade I won an art contest for the state of New York.
When did you decide to pursue a career as an artist?
I began about 10 years ago as a full-time artist, I had been sort of a part-time artist my whole life up till then.
What does your artwork aim to say?
I want people to ask themselves why, why do I feel the feelings that I am feeling in this moment, when they are experiencing my works.
How do you stay motivated and productive in your art practice?
I stay motivated by internal force. I guess the real reason I am creative is because I can not stop myself from doing it.
How has your artistic career progressed and changed over time?
My art is constantly evolving, I progress in my work by always thinking about how I can improve some aspect of it, to make myself more gratified with it.
Who are your biggest influences?
So many things influence me to be creative, everything from relationships to my environment and even the season of the year.
Which elements are essential to an artist’s work?
I have no idea really what is essential to my art, I have made artworks no matter what is happening in my life, in the absolute worst and best of my life the only thing that has remained a constant is making art.
Which function does the artist fulfill in society?
The function an artist has in society is the profound responsibility to help elevate the human experience through representations of beauty.
What do you want your artwork to stand for?
My art is meant to do just that, elevate the human experience.
What are your long-term goals for your career?
My long term goal is to continue to evolve my art to greater and greater improve the experience people have while viewing my art.
