Emiko Aida

Emiko Aida is a painter, printmaker and mixed media artist living in London, UK. She grew up in Jindaiji, Tokyo, Japan, an old historic town blessed with many religious temples, including a shrine to the water God. Preserved wildlife sanctuaries and a large botanical garden surrounds Jindaiji - these were her childhood playgrounds. After graduating from The Tokyo University of Arts with an MA in Fine Art, Emiko moved to London and completed a MA in Printmaking at the Royal College of Art. Her work is exhibited across the globe in many private, public and corporate collections, including the New York Public Library, USA, Guangdong Museum of Art, China and Ashmolean Museum, UK. Her works were included in the 2018 Columbia Threadneedle Prize, UK. 2019 Personal Structures, Venice Art Biennale, Italy; and the 2021 London Art Biennale, UK. Emiko has received multiple awards, including 16th SPACE International Print Biennial, Korea, Vivien Leigh Bequest Prize, Ashmolean Museum, UK and Thomas Word Award, National Open Competition, UK. Emiko’s publications to date include 2010 'PRINTMAKERS TODAY', Schiffer Publishing, USA and 2015 ‘Scintilla 18’, The Journal of the Vaughan Association, UK. She continually seeks to reach out to new audiences. Her life mission is to share moments from her rich cultural background, her love of nature, and her spiritual intention with as many people as possible. Emiko migrated from printmaking to painting several years ago. This is a natural step for Japanese artists and subconsciously, Emiko is following this path.
